After nearly 3 years of "are we fixing" current truck project or "get another truck" I've finally obtained the truck i want (94) and feel it's "worthy of the newer (98) 4.0, and m5od. at some point

I've grown to understand that 4.0 newer intake should be swapped to the older intake manifold. and "don't" use the cam sensor, do use the old wiring harness on the newer engine.

Question about the intakes? (manifold and all that goes with the word) .. will the older intake setup on the newer engine, be able to have a good gasket sealing? I saw on another site something about doubling intake gaskets? duh? lol

Thanks!

Can you start at the beginning and clarify exactly what you're trying to do?

If you're putting a '98 engine into a '94 truck, you -do- want to re-use any parts from the older engine that are different, e.g. wiring, sensors, intake, accessories, etc.

I read on another site that somebody "doubled up on the intake gaskets?"

when they put the older manifold setup onto the newer

Yes I know about switching the wiring harnesses and accessories we did that on the cars my son and I used to restore.

No reason to double gasket unless there are issues with the manifold or heads.
Or they were using really cheap china gaskets.

Of course I can't find where I read the gasket issue before. And I'm no machinist, but I'm sure the hundreds of thousands of engine blocks that are manufactured are not going to be changed drastically and cost hundreds of thousands maybe millions of dollars in tooling just to change something a few thousands of an inch.
On a well-established casting like the 4.0 block.

The older aluminum intake plenum with it's paper gasket will work fine with the newer engine. They both mount to the same fuel rail.

You could use the plastic one with it's rubber gaskets, but you would need to mount the intake air temp sensor somewhere on it.
