I have a blown motor on my truck. Whats the best way to get to the top bell housing bolts, also I can not get one of the bolts out of the trans to oil pan bolt. 2000 ranger 4.0 4x4. Do I need to drop transfer case mount for the motor to tilt?

Thanks

My advice is pull hard, that thing is heavy.

I like to get those top two from the top with a flex-head ratcheting wrench. Lay on top of the engine and reach around the intake. You have to pretty much do it by feel, you can see a little bit, but not a lot, but I think that way is much easier than trying to get at them from the bottom.

I don't like to let the trans hang because it puts extra stress on the bolts, which means more torque to get them undone.

The one in the pan, just get a bigger ratchet. That engine is blown, you don't care if you strip the pan.

Problem is my donor motor has two broken off studs in the oil pan to bell housing. Also having the same issue with the top bolt on the starter( dam aluminum) One other question, when it took off the rocker assembly on the donor motor, are all the valve stems supposed to be the same height? I ran a straight edge across them and they are different from each other.

The broken bolts in the oil pan can be drilled and tapped with a little patience. Some of your valves are not going to be in the same position(height) because of piston position in the cylinder and cam lobe to open the valve on compression/exhaust stroke.

The rocker arms and push rods are off of the motor. should not matter, valve springs are holding valves closed.

Roger that. I changed rocker asm with valve cover in my head. Lol my brain changes words randomly for some reason. Sorry :D
