Installed new engine...it ran for about 5 minutes then lost power and won't start now

Bought a rebuilt 2.3L engine previously used in a 1995 ranger and installed it in my 1999 ranger in place of the 2.5L engine. Both engines ran prior to being removed. After some fits and starts from not connecting some key sensors we were able to get the 2.3 engine to start and run for about 5 minutes and then it sort of lost power and died. It will not start now. Confirmed spark and fuel.
I'm really at a loss of how to systematically troubleshoot this issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert on 4 bangers other than I've removed a few over the years.

Not sure of the compatibility of the 2.5 & 2.3, but which PCM are you using?
