Body swaping

I have looked on the internet for this subject, yet I have only found people putting Ranger bodies on Explorer frames, I would like to know if anyone has put a Sport trac body on a Ranger frame? I have a 97 super cab and I would like to put a Sport trac on the frame. The ranger wheel base is only .5 inches shorter, but I do not know if it is wider or narrower than the Sport trac.. Any help would be appreciated

At least at the back end the Sport Trac (and Explorer) frame is wider. All the Explorer's had the springs directly under the Frame, which means that the frame rails on the sport track would sit about where the springs do on your Ranger frame. The Sport Tracs are also wider in the body, and use a wider rear axle. You would definitely have to build custom body mounts to match the bolt locations on the ST.

I can't recall the track width dimensions, but the Explorers (ST included) have a wider track width than the Rangers. I know the rear axles on the the Ex are a couple inches wider than on the Ranger.


Why would you want to do this? If you have access to a Sport Trac why not just build it as is?

Yes, why? Just buy a good used Sport Trac and enjoy it. Several of my friends bought Sport Tracs and really like them. They all got clean well taken care of vehicles for under $4500.
