Engine bogging on acceleration after warm-up.

General specs: '87 Ranger, with an '83 mustang 2.3 straight-4. What I'm thinking happened is that someone before me swapped the engines, and converted it to EFI... Unless '83 mustangs had EFI. As far as I'm aware though, they were carbureted. The thing ran great until it didn't.

The problem: after warming up, the engine bogs down on acceleration. It feels like it's actually slowing down when I hit the gas and it just sounds kinda funny when it's revving higher. The idle is not the best, but it's always cycled a bit and been a little funky.

What I've done so far: Distributor cap and rotor are good, timing marks are aligned, and I have the timing set to 10* before TDC. Checked the vacuum system, no leaks. Checked the fuel filter, it was good but I changed because I already had the new part. I get fuel pressure all the way up to the Injector rail, the pumps are both good. Tail pipe is also clear and has good flow.

Any more ideas? I'm stumped

Many thanks.

start by pulling the codes, go HERE and follow the analog volt meter method, just use a test light instead as analog meters are hard to find anymore... If it's happening after it's warm it's probably oxygen sensor related though, or you have a bad exhaust leak before the sensor...

I can't seem to find the OBD plug. When I searched online, it looks like it's around the area of the master cylinder but there's just a bunch of spaghetti around there and nothing that resembles the plug I'm looking for.

On my 1985 ranger it is located on the passenger side fender well near the heater blower motor. Mine is just a loose plug dangling in that space, not mounted or attached in any way.
