Have a set of Grabber AT 2 that I'd like to tractionize. Anybody know of a place in Michigan that can do it?
I'm in northwest Ohio, nobody around here even knows what it is. So,, I'll use that as an excuse for a fudge run to the Straits or Grand Traverse Bay area. I'd be most interested in the area north of I 96 and west of I 75, maybe the eastern U.P.
Thanks.

Is this the same as "Siping" a tire? where they put tiny cuts in the tread so the tires get better traction on wet/ snowy roads?

If so, maybe the tire shops will know it by that name.

If that is the case, discount tire does it. There's one on Monroe st by the mall.

Edit: did some googling. Definitely not the same as siping. Looks like a process pretty specific to ice racing, some guys were talking about building their own rig. What do you plan on using the tires for?

I live in the straights area. I have no idea shops that would do it though. Give independence tire and auto a call, they might do it.

And stay home fudgie! :D haha just kidding.

I was using tractionizing as a general term, I guess thats mostly pin holes whereas siping is cutting slits in the tread blocks. Holes favor ice, slits favor rain and snow.
The truck is my work and daily driver, I average over 500 miles a week in mostly suburban and rural areas. Always on pavement, though not the best at times.
Had these tires on last winter, never got stuck, but thought they could do a bit better in snow.
Having gone thru several sets of Blizzaks on FWD cars, and a Mustang, I'm well acquainted with sipped winter tires. They work great.
I'm thinkin' about a fudge run to Mackinaw the second week of November, perhaps a side trip to Traverse City or Charlevoix to get the tires worked on.
Hell, Gaylord ought to have something, its home base to a big snow rally.

Kunar, I'm in the neighborhood behind that Discount Tire store. I usually go to Belle Tire though.

Thats where independence tire and auto is, gaylord. They also recently open a new shop in Petoskey.

Check craigslist I see that there are sets that have studs on them but that would mean new tires, back in the early days motorcycles racing on ice had big ass spikes that came thru the tire core, and had a liner and tube in them, made my ass pucker just thinking about it

I don't know what tractionizing is, but I do know there won't be much open in November in Mackinaw City.:icon_cheers:

All we'll need is the Dixie Saloon and a motel.
Oh yeah, some fudge too.
Been there many times in the winter, very quiet and peaceful.
