new 4.0 ohv long block, no oil pressure

i just put a long block into my 1994 ranger 4.0 ohv, and i put everything back together and go to start it and there's no oil pressure. i took the oil filter out and removed the fuel pump relay so it wouldn't start and just cranked it. no oil coming out of the oil filter housing. any ideas on what may have gone wrong? i bolted the new oil pump and pick up screen exactly how it came off. is it possible that i put the oil pump shaft in wrong?

If it has the heads on it then it is a long block. That's all there is to it.

Bummer, could be the shaft or maybe the high pressure by-pass is bad, so oil is just going back to the pan.
Main passage is blocked?



Short block = an engine block with crank and pistons installed but no heads
Long block = short block with heads torqued down ready to install
Complete = whole engine, with intake, oil pan and most of the accessory brackets attached
