ground hawgs - opinions.

Who has run ground hawgs and what do you think of them?
I know they are a very heavy tire.

Would it be worth it to buy a used set for running in the mud?
What about grooving them to open them up a bit?

a grooved groundhawg is a bad ass tire, theres a reason why the groundhawgs design hasnt changed at all for over 30 years, they still sell alot of them, and they last a LONG time, not uncommon to see 40k miles out of a set of hawgs, and even after there done for road use, they still do decent offroad, i love ground hawgs, so i may be a bit biased, but ive had 5 different trucks with hawgs on them, and i will run hawgs before ill run boggers....also, hawgs are not a mash and go tires, hawgs are a finess tire, for the average wheeler that points and hammers it, they hate hawgs because of how much they will dig, but for someone who knows how to be a bit controlling on the skinny pedal, they will love the tires till the day they die

What about running a grooved hawg on the road, maybe 20 to 50 miles just to get to the event?
Will they balance up with enough weight?

since hawgs are bias plyed tires, ive never bothered with attempting to balance them, id just drive them for a few miles until there round, then just cruise......

I borrowed a set of 35" Hawgs for a snowball a couple years ago. They seem to go through anything with ease.

Thanks. I guess it doesnt matter now.
I was trying to decide to buy a used set at a pretty good price. I waited to long he just sold them.
Next time I will buy then decide if I should or not.lol

u wouldnt have to wait that long, they are GREAT tires for onroad aswell, they are prolly the noisiest tires on the road, but they wear GREAT and kick ass in the rain and snow

I had a set years ago. They were horrible in the rain. They also run smaller than swampers size for size. They do take abuse well and last forever.

i never had a problem with my hawgs in the rain, and ive had 6 or 7 daily drivers runnin hawgs

Any tire as hard as a ground hawg is will be poor in the rain. On the other hand, that's what makes them so tough and long lasting.

well, im sayin from personal experince, they work as well in the rain as ANY OTHER offroad tire, were talkin tsl's etc, none of them are particularaly "good" in the rain, but ive never had a complaint about hawgs
