I'm replacing the plugs in my 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L V6 OHV. I'm installing a set of OEM Motorcraft Double Platinum plugs. I was told that the plugs were pre-gapped but I just want to make sure. The plugs are now gapped to 0.50. What is the recommended gap of the plugs for this vehicle.

Pretty much any Ford will want 46-52. I try to get them as close to 46 as I can.

When in question? Check your under hood emission sticker. You know the one with the vacuum hose routing and all the specs...

Your setting is on that label.

+1. Listen to ADSM08.

Mine are gapped to ~.032.

Mine is turbo charged, though, and they have to have a smaller gap. So don't go off of my specs.

It's not always there. A lot of times after a vehicle switches from distributor to EDIS they take that spec off the label and it directs you to check the spec book.

In that case? Carve it in with a hammer and chisel. (J/K)

It is usually on the spec page in the owner's manual, if you have it.
