Got coded PO401 and P0443. My Chilton book doesn't say how to test the EGR, only says how to change it. For the PO443, I'm going to do what they said to check, but I'm suspecting the Vapor Management Valve as the main suspect. The Charcoal Canister is giving me signs as bad as The Book says that fuel odors may be resultant from a bad canister and/or vapor leaks from Evaporative Emissions Control Lines and I smell them all the time while driving. The lines appear to be in good shape but I'm going to check them like they say.

Should I just change the EGR Valve straight away or is there a way to check it first? Any ideas for solving P0443?

Thanks,

DPF sensors routinely go bad on 3.0 Ranger engines throwing an EGR code, so that's the first place I'd start investigating.

I had p0443 last month, and I used this procedure to solve it. http://www.tomshints.com/FordRanger/FR_EPS.htm

I discovered that my evap. purge solenoid was faulty. It was permanently closed, and wouldn't open when 12V voltage was applied. A new solenoid cost me $42.

This procedure was useful to discover why the Mazda B4000 Check-Engine-Light was on, and why OBD-II problem code was P0443.

Also i found on mine that what i thought was a bad DPF sensor was really the hoses were shot. So check those too to the OP. I went to lowes and got a foot of 1/4 inch and a foot of 3/8 inch fuel line. i think it was those sizes. I know the hoses are speced at a metric size but 1/4 and 3/8 if memory serves are the closest standard size and slid them on. I put a hose clamp on each end just for added inusrance. If i recall correctly the 1/4 inch had to be persuaded with a little spit to get it to slide on. They do sell the hoses at autozone but i figured for $4 i'll go my route.
