1 ton SAS swap

ive always wondered how much an atlas and doubler were
are they that much better i keep reading the atlas in indestructable

HaHa I can't keep the grin off my face! Lil Ranger, just run your transmission lines in/out of the connections on your radiator THEN into the aftermarket cooler. Does your rad have these connections? lol

Sasquatch seems to run the A4LD with 104 Lbs. tires and a 4.0Ltr/5.38's and NO issues. If LilFord gets 39.5x13.5LT20 Iroks they only weigh 74 Lbs. per tire and are abit skinnier- therefore will cut through thick mud better then Sasquatch's 16" wide LTB's - I think he will be ok. Do you like Iroks LilFord?! Anyone on here use AMS oil ATF in their auto transmissions?

Even though I REALLY find all the comments about LilFord's trans amusing we got WAY off topic! If someone wants to do a 1 Ton swap on a tight budget what is the best way to go - Leaf springs all 4 corners with Bilstein shocks? or use the factory F350 radius arms/Track-bar with Coils&Shocks/Air shocks/Coilovers/other suggestions?

SasquatchRyder - Please keep telling LilFord he does not need/should not stack a 8" block under his 8" suspension lift + 3' body lift in the rear! Chevy leaf springs and the smallest block you can get away with!

yes i love iroks , best tires ever .
and no it doesnt have thoes connections apparently i have a standard radiator not an automatic , i didnt know there was a difference.

i dont want leafs i want leafs in back , air shocks or coilovers up front .
i will be using the stock radius arms considering there just as long as skyjacker extended arms
i heard ams oil was the best stuff to use in a automatic transmission

I'm not running any block under my rear springs.

Crawler suspension and mud truck are two different things. Guys who use the truck on the trail and in the rocks will want it as low as possible to keep it stable.

You see most mud runners...this isn't the case usually.

As for a tight budget and a 1 ton swap... that one is up to you. I've got probably around 5k total into my set up.

i was thinking trail gear 5'' lift springs in the rear there not bad for 369.99
what is a good coil to use and ill eventually run a coilover in the future . if they make a big enough coil for what i want

do you know or anyone know if its actually only 5'' lift of if itll be more on a ranger ?

SasquatchRyder - You said you got about 5" of lift using a Chevy 5.5" lift leaf spring. I thought a STOCK 1988-98 Chevy Leaf gave a Ranger 3" of lift? So wouldn't you have closer to 8.5" of lift? Does your 1991 have a bodylift? Does 5K include EVERYTHING you bought for SAS (gears/lockers etc.) or is that just what the suspension setup cost?

LiLFord - Have you ever gotten water in your cab or ever NEEDED the cab of your truck higher then what it is now?! Even when you are following (or leading!) a Dakota on 44's and 10' lift!

Low is the name of the game....not tall. Cut till they clear.

Those are 40x16x17 LTBs.

Low is the name of the game for a rock crawler

Tall is the name of the game for a mud truck

LiLRanger's Ranger is his toy AND daily driver. Lifting it 10' in the air is going to make it a sloppy piece of shit on the road - unless he 3 or 4 Links it with Coilovers front and rear - am I wrong?! I'm far from an expert on SAS.

Lifting it that high in the air won't make it steer worse, considering he will be redoing steering components anyway. Tires have a lot to do with it too I think also. Iirc,as far as a 3 link goes that is a 3 link. Two radius arms and a panhard/or track bar.

LOL yeah man I know what a 3Link is, I was more referring to the rear. He wants (wanted?!) to stack 8" block under his 8" lift leaf springs and Belltech shackles. I think that's gonna make it a sloppy pos! I've also got my doubts about getting good steering geometries and pinion angle on the Dana60 using the stock radius arms and lifting it as much as he wants.
We're both pretty new to the SAS world, we got a good luck at MONSTER of a Dakota/F350 for a bit before the guy moved back east. That guy had some pretty big King coil-overs and he made his own 3-Link in the front and used Heim joints and and and ($$$)! His pinion angle still SUCKED, and he didn't have a front dshaft more then he did.
Correct me if I'm wrong LiLRanger, but I think he (LiLRanger) just wants to get these 1 ton diffs geared/locked, and into his truck the cheapest way possible - without it being a pig! Next year or maybe year after start Linking it/King coil-overs.
Anyone got any words of wisdom for him?

WILL The radius arms work on my ranger if i run leafs ? or should i go coilovers with bracing on outside of frame ?
i have the lift kit bracing from the 1 ton but in order for it to be the same measurment as ranger frame the have to be on the outside of frame instead of properly on the inside .

or would a 3 link be better

Stacked blocks are never ever good. I'm saying that from personal experience. You will get the worst case of axle wrap you have ever seen. Now as far as cheapest way possible is use most of what you have. I'm just going off of what I've been told so if anyone has anything to add feel free. I would extend the eadius arms to give you a better angle to work with. Find some eb couls(wild horse) and go from there.

No leaf springs will not work with radius arms. So now I ask, why coilovers? If it is going to be a mud truck, flex really isn't an issue. All you need is tire height. Also I've seen leaf spring sas rbv's and other small pickups do pretty decent. You will have move the perches and pads inward so you can set it up the right way. Again, I'm not an expert but there's a little food for thought.

No way id spend money on coilovers and stick it in a mud pit...
