The body shop I work for had a class on efficiency this past Thursday put on by Sherwin Williams, our paint supplier. They brought up some good points relating to the auto industry. Ford would purposely let defective cars make it through the line just so their "2nd line" repair shop would have work, this cost the company millions and millions of dollars over the years, and could have easily been resolved had problems been taken care of when they were spotted on the line. An example of this that they gave was a run in the paint because the robot that painted the cars was out of adjustment, they let HUNDREDS of cars go through with the exact same run. Another example was only putting three lugnuts on cars, so then it would go over so the "2nd line" guys so they could put the other 2 on.
Whats my point? This coal thing just makes me think of that, we have better, more efficient ways of making energy, our resources aren't going to last forever you know. Yet we have to "create jobs" for everyone. I know I know, thats the big problem right now, jobs. Unemployment is up. But you know what? There are jobs out there, I think there's just a lot of people who don't want to work THOSE jobs. Skilled trades is one of those, we have so many kids today going to college studying "business management" and other stupid shit like that, while the world still needs plumbers, electricians, mechanics, collision repair specialists (like me, people will ALWAYS need their car fixed!), etc, etc. Problem is, everyone wants a cushy desk job making $80k a year shuffling papers, thus, we have alot of people either unemployed or underemployed, well you know what? The world needs ditch diggers too!
Sorry for the rant, it may not make sense, but thats just how I see it..everyones just looking to blame someone else.
