Ok guys, 1997 2wd ranger with PA 3 inch body lift running 255/70/r16. Power(or lack there of) gets put to the ground by 2.3 and a 5 speed and the factory 7.5 rear with 3.73 gears. Truck accelerates fine with no issues with this combo. I have been looking at the rough country 4 inch suspension lift for a few weeks now and am wondering about a few things.

1. Will i need a longer driveshaft with this lift?
2. Will 33's be to much tire for this gear combo? as it sits now i can let out on the clutch slow and it will take off without a foot on the gas.
3. If gearing was a bad combo what size gear to go with?

All input is appreciated in advance. Thanks!

1. Yes

3. IIRC the highest they still offer for the 7.5 is 4.10's. If you have the option swapping an 8.8 will give you more better options.

I dont think you will need a longer drive shaft. Just a one piece.

The driveshaft does not come into play at all with a body lift. If your ranger is a supercab and the carrier bearing is going out it may need to be replaced, but that's the only reason and it would have to be done with or without a body lift.

I've run 33's on a 4.0 with 3.08's and I've run 35's on a 3.0 with 3.73's. Neither were the best option but it's not that bad. Since you have a manual your only concern would be that the clutch might have to be replaced more often. You can always find a used axle with 4.10's in a junk yard, many times for cheaper than having them installed on your current axle.

I'd be more concerned with trying to fit 33's on the truck in general with only a 3" body lift. They may very well fit at the tire store, but on a sharp turn or if you plan on going over and bumps you'll likely end up rubbing on something.

Oops. My bad. For some reason I was thinking he was talking about suspension lift.

So the rough country with 31s and 3.73s should be fine in these areas?

He already has the 3" body lift and wants to add the 4" suspension to allow room for 33s. Thats what I read....

man I've been getting all kinds of different answers about the driveshaft thing myself...can't get a straight answer lol

Needing a new driveshaft kinda depends on your application. If you don't plan on flexing your suspension all the way out you might be ok. Getting a shaft retubed only ran me $100. I would personally recommend it so that you know your ok.

Well with the stock sway bar I doubt I'll even be able to flex that much... I'd rather spend the money else where if possible.
