Finishing up my rear suspension soon, unfortunately I just realized that my practically brand new (and recently painted) shocks probably won't work well with the new suspension. They're Monroe shocks originally purchased for a 1988 4x4.

So I'm in the market.

I'm not really looking to break the bank, I'm trying to keep to a budget here and that budget is TIGHT until this spring.

So.. are there any cheap offroad style shocks (something with a boot, boots look cool *haha*) or even an OEM shock from another vehicle (fullsize maybe?) that will fit my suspension change?

Truck is the 1993 in my sig.

take a looks at the rancho rs5000's they're pretty cheap, i think they were about 45 bucks a piece for the rear ones, plus rancho makes them in extended lengths. I had them on my last truck with no real complaints. A lot of people say they are too stiff but I didnt mind them, i thought in most situations they made the truck feel a little tighter. However i will say if you go down a washboard road or somthing like that you will get rattled a lot more than say with the bilsteins I have now. Bottom line, for the price I think they are very good if you dont mind a slightly stiffer ride.

Edit:
didn't see the 6 inch lift part at first, idk how much of a lift rs5000's come available for, but i think they may be available, check out their website they list extended shock lengths. Also since youre 2wd,... and did 2in blocks in the rear i think? you're probably as high as maybe a 4x4 with a 3-4in lift? idk just guessing

I also had Rough Country 2" lift shocks on my B2 when I put my coil spacers and shackles and had no complaints about them. I thought they rode pretty nice. I paid like $115-$120 for all 4 on Ebay shipped.

Actually I'm running belltech shackles with 4" blocks in the rear (temporary) on '06 leafs.

If the budget is real tight, I'd probably lean toward gas-charged parts-store shocks (Gabriel, Monroe, etc.). The gas-charged versions of these shocks are not as bad as some make them out to be (better than many non-gas shocks costing much more).

Shocks spec'ed for a '79 F-150 or Bronco (non-Quad-shock setup) should work for a 4-6" lifted TTB RBV (~20.5" ext length).
For the rear, you might look for '69-'93 Dodge half-ton shocks (~29.5" ext length), however the bottom mount at the axle is a bit wider on them, so there's a chance you may need to modify something a bit.
These are the applications the shocks on my Ranger are from.

i'd say spend the money on the rancho's. found this little gem of a deal on ebay today and now im just waiting for a paycheck http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shock-Absor...es&vxp=mtr&hash=item335ef15590#ht_1699wt_1270
not trying to threadjack but does anyone have experience with james duff coil buckets and shock lengths?

Worst shocks I ever put on the frontend of my truck :annoyed: The valve action on them makes it feel like you have loose parts in your frontend.

I seem to recall Rancho sorta-somewhat recently came out with a gas-charged version of the RS9000, though after all the Rancho failures (and general lack of quality) I've had to deal with in the past, I just can't bring myself to buy them. If spending that much coin I'd just stick with Bilstein.

Thanks for the info 4x4 junkie,
