He everyone, I searched this but didn't find what I was looking for. A while back I was reading on here I thought , but it might have been another board. It was about narrowing an 8.8 but just cutting the long side the same as the short side and using the short axels on both sides. it would allow the use of wider wheels and tires without changing the frame at all. if anyone has info on this, please let me know . I'm working with a gen one ranger. thanks,, Foxy

Hmmmm..........

Ya, I know, WIZAZZ! I went a lil' farther than your lookin for, but you get the drift>>>

i'm not seeing where that's needed... lol. but yeah, just do it... just like shortening any other axle...

that may have been in reference to the 10.25 sterling.there's a tread where that's being done in 'non ranger axles' right now.

i'm not sure if the 8.8 has a shorter axle or not...if it does it would be the same type of job.

the explorer axle is offset, some other 8.8's aren't

Just cutting down the axle tube wont give you more room for tires. Its the springs that limit the width. IIRC you can fit a 13" wide tire in the wheelwell, if you relocate the springs.

Modify the frame with explorer spring hangers (they mount under the frame, not on the side.) and you'll have all the room in the world.

THEN cut down an Ex 8.8. You'll have a 31 spline disc 8.8, that doesnt stick the wheels out from under the bed.
