My new toy for the ranger

Wish I could find a TC engine in my area. All I can find are ones with the 3.8's under the hoods. But i would only do this to a 2wd ranger and have it as my DD.

All I can say is nice steal/find.

thanks scott, im debating on keeping power steering but that wont be till later. my problems as of right now is finding a harness and the fuel components lol They are getting rid of every 85-88 rangers before I can get to them, unless I can use fuel parts off a newer ranger(maybe 89-97?). I may just go the hard route to kill time and start making my own.
Heres pictures so far on the engine..

thanks yea I cant find any around here either, I got lucky finding this

for harness and fuel lines i would try to find a 89-94 ranger and steal the whole fuel system and harness. 89-92 harness might work better than the 93+.
if your planning on modifying and making decent power you might consider going to a walbro 255 pump so you dont run out of fuel

thanks im going back to the junkyard tomorrow and doing some searching. They all have 94-98 rangers everywhere lol I got my M5OD out of a 98

for serpentine belt swap believe you would need to get a 2.3 crank pulley, a water pump pulley and alternator pulley not 100% sure if you can swap it right on the alternator or water pump as for alignment wise

I found a 95 ranger but the truck had been on fire....harness was all burned up -_-
As to the wiring harness I was thinking cant I just cut the TC harness at all the connectors that are actually on the engine(there is alot that I dont need) and just run the correct wires from the sensor connectors to the right pin on the computer harness plug? Ive got ALLData at my school and plenty of wiring diagrams, its just getting frustrating looking for a harness. Now my search is on for fuel parts. Also orders a complete gasket set for the cylinder head and turbo.

yeah you can do that, just make sure everything is right. as for using a 95 you might not want to because they are obd2 and everything you need is obd1 so look for parts from 94-
as for serpentine setup like reggioisme mentioned, i would recomend a 93-94 ranger setup,

Ok awesome, this is gonna be a pain in the ass, all the wires are gonna be the same colors, I'll have to label them and make a wiring schematic with this program I downloaded. Thanks for the replies, I'll keep you guys updated.

I worked on tearing the motor apart today some more, good and bad news, everything seems to look fine bottem end wise(oil has no coolant in it, relatively clean/no metal shavings, etc). Bad news it had a burnt valve and it seems the last owner ran this car lean, so now I am probably gonna do some work to the head since I am gonna be in there anyways :annoyed: My end result is not to make this a high performance engine, just a pretty solid daily driver that may see 15-20 pounds of boost, now later on down the road I will probably build it when I have another daily driver:icon_thumby: Heres some pics from today...

doing some more research, I cant find a LA3 series computer or Big VAM but NAPA has re manufactured units for 88 turbo tbirds. Not sure if these are big VAM and LA3 at all, no labeling or anything, just under 1988 turbo coupe tbird, the ECU is for a 5 speed. Do you think these would be a decent substitute or no

looks okay from what I see, burnt valve = not good

try looking for a parts dealer, google it the hell out of it! Or just find another thing thats aftermarket, but the exact same thing.
