When I drive down the road I have a loud humming sound coming form the front driver wheel. When I press down on the breaks it stops immediately. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this problem?

My dad had the same issue in basically the same truck (94 ranger 4x4 4.0 auto). Driver's side hummed got louder when turned to the left (i think) and quieter the opposite direction. The dealer told him the bearings were fine but his company's mechanic who also had a ranger told him to have them replaced anyway. He told the dealer to replace them and the noise was gone.

With constant front end noises, always rule out the brakes first.

You might just need a front brake job. It's VERY common for worn disk brakes to make strange noises, even when not applied.

Wheel bearings are certainly possible, as are more mundane things like a piece of debris caught next to the rotor.
