The truck must have the stock carb to run properly with the stock computer controlled ignition. It is called a "feed-back" carburetor because it works with the computer.

You really won't gain a lot from doing the conversion. The carb. on the 2.8 is actually very good if it's set up correctly. It runs at all angles and is very competent off-road. You will spend a fair penny to put in the Dura spark and buy the carb. and when you are done you will have little gain. Not trying to piss on your Wheaties but just letting you know before you start writing checks.

I did this on my 84 B2 several years ago. I used a Motorcraft
2V 2150 (rejetted), and a Mallory distributor for ignition.
It made a clean and simple installation, and ran very well
after the conversion.

Do you have to run the smog pump to complete the feedback system? I have everything intact except the two hard lines that connect to the pump via rubber hoses. I really do not want to go to the expense of replacing the hard lines unless they are necessary to complete the system.

To make the system work properly you need them. The pump forces outside air into the CAT to burn off hydrocarbons.
