can anyone tell me on a stock 85 2.8 which wire is the neg. coming off the coil ? its for a tach

does it go through a plug then is a black wire that goes into a litle round metal cylinder thing mounted to the side of the coil?

No, that is the +12V side, and blackbII is correct, that is a noise suppression capacitor.

yea it was the green one thanks man tach works good wired it into my dimmer switch even. now to just figure out why its running rough went wheeling a few days back an it ran fine for awhile now its running rough somtimes almost just when idling
