i got a 1991 ford ranger 4x4 supercab, witha 4.0l 5 speed man tranny, and i was wondering, about the diff ways to do a snorkel, do i have to go from the black box, or can i go straight off the carb, id rather go from the carb it seems much less painful

do i have to do it like this from black box ( i havent really paid ne attention to whether or not i have this box under the hood, i just thaught about putting on a snorkel all of a sudden and its mid night lol),

http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/winter2007/1994_Explorer_snorkel.htm

or can i do it like this

http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/MySnorkle.html

id much rather do it this way, but can i?, and yes i know this thread is worthless without pics, but i dont have a cam and need to get one, so thats why i use everyone else's pics, lol

and are there ne other ways, of mounting the snorkel up the a frame i think its called, next to the window,i dont really wanna, put screw in the frame next to the window, can i put 1 or more 90 degree angles in the pvc, and mount it like that, its hard to explain i think ill have to draw something on micrsoft paint for u guys

thanks for the opionoins

you cn go straight off the carb as long as there are no sensor between your air box and the carb.

I've never been anywhere around here where I would need a snorkle..
Around here if theres enough water or mud to reach a point where you would need it, your just about screwed anyway because this is a flood zone.

i run a snorkle on alot of my trucks because the fact of the matter is around here its not uncommon for me to be chewing through a hole the likes of which most of u guys would be screwed in. i have run MANY snorkles and nothing ever decreased gasmileage, its the same concept of a long ass cold air intake, doesnt do dick for performance.

the fact of the matter is most the time im in mud/water thats EASILY coming over the cowl of my truck chewing through a hole, if u plan on playing in the deep stuff the a outside the truck snorkle or in the cab snorkle is a must

I didn't even think about running it into the cab. I'll have to look into that. I just didn't want to run one outside and have to cut the hood or fender..

Your truck is a 4.0 according to your post and doesn't have a "carb." It is fuel injected. There will be a mass air flow sensor in the intake away from the throttle body. You will need to keep this sensor in the system. shady

you can do what i did on my 4.0, run the stock pipe to a sensor, then from the sensor get a adapter to step down to 3" (if u plan on making it from PVC 3" is what u will need), and then just run the PVC as u see fit.
