This 1992 Ford Explorer has been converted to Diesel by swapping in a 3.9 Liter Cummins Diesel. The engine came from a Frito-Lay step van.
This Explorer reused the stock P/S pump and A/C compressor
and
relocated the batteries to the back behind the tires on the kick panels.
It is really a smooth set up. It's believed he even used the stock
radiator. The diesel is a turbocharged 4 cylinder.
He did have to cut the crossmember under the motor, and make
another since it did not allow for the oil pan. The main
reason for the swap was because the diesel lasts so much longer, and there was
some sort of a major problem with the motor in the 1st place, so he swapped it
out. The motor came from a Frito Lay step van. The fan is now electric because the water pump that it would usually bolt to is in a totally different place and would not allow it to fit correctly. He compensated for the weight by putting spacers under the springs. If anyone has any more information about this Explorer, please contact us. |
