We have a 90 Ranger I am helping to work on, with a 3.0 L engine, hard to start, timing was off and loose, I turned it, timed it, bolted it down, started better, but still has long cranking times till starting.

Any clues as to what I need to look into?

Thank you all

Did you pull the spout connector when you timed it?

I did not, is it at the base of the cap?

So, if I unplug it, then re time it, when looking at the scale to hit with the light, should the crank arrow be to the left or right of the 0. I can't see the scale very good.

Thanks,

Larry

ford put the spout in random locations it seems. mines behind the driver headlight.

with the spout pulled, time the engine to 10 degree BTDC. its easier to crawl under the truck with a flashlight first and put a chalk mark on the dampner on the 10 degree mark.

Ok, I will try this tonight, it the spout plug connected to the Dist.? if not what am I looking for, two prong or three?

Thank you

I've seen the SPOUT plug hanging out the engine harness right above the right side valve cover, and near the right side headlight. But never on a distributor. I'm sure there are other places it might be.

I like to mark my timing mark with Liquid Paper. Did it on all my vehicles.... even though the Chevy doesn't get timed that way (it's timed to highest vacuum at idle).

its a 2 prong.

like i said, mines behind the drivers side headlight. yours may be located elsewhere (as MAKG suggested). your's may also be a different color, but it'll look something like this:

On my '91 it was between the back of the pass valve cover and heater box, it was a PITA to find. I found it by following the wiring from the TFI module and ford put those in different places too, Its either mounted on the dizzy or a heatsink on drivers side of the radiator. I'd guess that the spout connector is in the same place as my '91

Thank you all, I will use the picture as a guide..

He got into an accident with the truck last week, so now I have it here for a bit..
