Talking Vanessa's Truck Build

Many of you know that I bought Vanessa an old Ranger for our anniversary a year ago this past July. The truck sat behind a friends shop until Vanessa and I moved in to our new house this spring. The house has consumed a bunch of our money, but she finally started working on it this past month.

Here it is sitting in the garage. We got that hood out of the junkyard last summer. Vanessa saw it and liked it, so we traded her old hood for this one. Ignore the date. Stupid camera.

We pulled the 2.9L V-6. It supposedly runs. I bought the truck with a bad tranny that was already removed.

I pulled the dash out and the harness. We got the harness that goes behind the dash from the donar V8 F-150. The dash was cracked anyways. We got a new dash and will put the V8 harness in it when we install it.

Vanessa started pulling the seats out. The passenger side is out. She just has to get the drivers side out. We have a set of seats from an Escort GT to put in.

We pulled the bed. Vanessa did all the wrenching (well, most of it...) and I helped her carry it out of the garage.

This bed will be going back on. We got it from the local salvage yard.

I need to get some Skyjacker Class II TTB drob brackets so we can do the front suspension. She's using my D-35, Skyjacker radius arms, and so 6-inch Skyjacker coils I have.

I also need a headliner. The one from this truck is missing.

Not sure on the rear suspension yet. I'd like to do the Chevy leaf swap, but it's a little more complicated on the extended cabs vs the regular cabs.

Looks like fun! Ive been looking forward to seeing this build.

I break things with my 4.0 and Dana 35, I cant imagine what it'll be like with a V8.

Now if I only had time to get the BII back in the shop....too many projects.

Good luck!

We have the whole 5.0 V-8, trans and t-case from a F-150 as well as the harness that goes behind the dash.

The plan is to put the whole drivetrain in without a conversion kit (except for maybe the engine mounts). Hopefully since we have the whole harness it will be more of a plug-n-play.

She wants to do all the work and pay for it, so the work can only get done when she's got the cash.

This about as easy and cheap as it gets for the rear suspension Jim, Trail-Gear Toyota 3" rear springs: http://www.trail-gear.com/leaf-springs

These are the springs I'm running in the back of my B2R project. They literally bolt right in. They are a tiny bit narrower than a Ranger spring so I put a big flat washer on each side of the bushing. Here's a pic:

They will move the rear axle back 1"-1.5" and give you 5"-6" of lift. They flex great on especially on heavier rigs like your extended cab truck. At $199 the price is hard to beat too.

Here's a pic of them at work on NMB2's rig:
