Technically your not adjusting the mass air meter, rather your adjusting what the computer does with the information that the mass air meter is reporting to it.

I'm rather impressed with this. Was never a fan of a remote turbo setup if one could be made to fit underhood, but I like what you have done. Good work!

Sorry - been a busy week getting the rest of the stuff finished up in it and whatnot.
The Sniper system is pretty straightforward. This makes the tuning process sound really tacky and like it isn't going to get what you want, but in all reality it's just a series of dropdown menu's to input what you have in your setup. Compression ratio, aspiration, displacement, injectors, pump size, MAF brand, size, and calibration, etc. It adjusts everything in the computer for what you have. The guys at Sniper have a really really well put together setup, and even for a person with little computer/car knowledge, it would still be easy to figure out. The basic Special Forces software does NOT allow you fine-tune the super-specific points of the tune, like the MAF curve, etc. The more advanced Sniper software covers this. The only fine-tuning options in Special Forces allow for timing and AFR ratio adjustments. However, there are numerous authorized people within the Sniper 'network' that will customize your tune for you for a small fee, or many just for donation. The starter Special Forces software was about $350 from RPMOutlet.com, with free overnight shipping for the holidays! The tranny is an M5OD. The transfer case is, well, I quite seriously don't know. My dad snagged it at the same time he got the tranny. Says Borg-Warner on it. I wanted the manual tranny and manual t-case instead of the Explorer's auto tranny/auto TC setup. I like to KNOW it's engaged haha and I just like driving a manual. As for the exhaust, I cut the mufflers clear out. It's straight piped, and isn't obnoxious at all. Has a good tone under accel, not extremely loud, but good and throaty. Pops every now and then under decel, but nothing crazy. Amazingly quiet under cruise though - everyone comments on how quiet it is for being straight piped. Came out really good. For calibrating the MAF as blow-through, well, I put in "Blow-through" for the selection in the Sniper software! It adjusts the computer for the appropriate changes, and input the new transfer function for the Lightning MAF.

If I honestly knew anyone with a video camera I'd do a video! But, I have a couple video's of a turbo'd 5.0 Explorer that sounds similar.
behind the truck during takeoff http://videos.streetfire.net/video/4...e200af6ea3.htm 0-60 pull http://videos.streetfire.net/video/a...e200ad328b.htm parked http://videos.streetfire.net/video/5...b001452a71.htm He's running a 3" single exhaust whereas mine is 2 1/4" headers to 3" then back down to 2 1/4" duals. He also still has all four cats in. Mine whistles alot more under throttle, and has quite a bit deeper tone. 0-60 time is pretty similar, even with the 33's on my truck. Power... really wish I knew of a place close to me with a dyno. I have a magazine article with a stock-block build of a 5.0 Fox-body 'stang running 10psi that went from 200hp to like 445, and 240tq up to 490 or 500. I figure at 6psi and with the bigger tires and whatnot I'm probably around 340hp, 360tq or so. Pulls really really hard, I beat a 350Z without too much effort and a turbo'd Eclipse up until about 70mph.

I definitely would have given SCT a shot since they have really nothing but good rep, but since I couldn't find anyone really locally that could do tunes for me, I was really skeptical of doing the whole e-mail scenario or whatever. I wanted to be able to either do it myself or do it face-to-face with someone.

Remote custom tuning can be accomplished with good results, you just have to datalog your truck and send those logs to your tuner. If your tuner even thinks about trying to tune your vehicle, in person or remotely, without logging then go somewhere else. Still it is best to tune a FI combo in person because you can hear, feel, and see what the vehicle is doing and help diagnose any problems that may arise in some combinations. |
