Hey guys, last night my trans, A4LD, started slipping and only got worse till i got home about a 15 mile drive. I took it by the transmission shop and they said it needs a rebuild. I really dont want to put the A4LD back in there and i would really like a 5 speed manual. My question to you is what all needs to be done to put the manual trans in. Is there a cut-out on the floor that i need to take out or will i be cutting? what about wiring? I assume the drive shafts will have to be different lengths. yes it is 4X4. Just let me know what you know or have heard.

Thanks,
brant

tranny swap

The clutch is hydraulic so you'll have to knock out or drill out the holes for the master cylinder. The clutch pedal should bolt right in, you'll just have to find an assembley. The center hump may not have a hole or plate for the shifter, you should be able to see where you need to cut and the bottom peice of the shift boot will seal the hole. The front shaft will need to be shortend and the rear lenghtend. The cross member for the trans mount might have to be changed, some you can just move.:icon_confused:

Your best bet would be to find a wrecked donor truck and start swappen in parts.

If you got the time and the tools, custom fabrication is always cool.:icon_welder:

You could go with an older style linkage type clutch, but finding the pivots is usealy a pita.
