How to id the different types of auto's???

I am trying to find out what trany i have the pan kinda cones down to a 3" circle any ideas or tips to id tranys please:icon_twisted:

4x4 a4ld...pos anyway you slice it. I blew up my fourth one about a month ago.

Actually no,
'83-84 will be a C5.
'85 can be either a C5 or an A4LD
'86-94 A4LD
'95-97 4R55E
(presuming a 4.0 engine I don't know what they used on the 3.0 4x4)
'98-up 5R55E
etc....

And the OP said nothing about 4x4 or what engine he has which
open other possibilities...

The C5 has a dimple in the pan.
The A4LD both 2wd and 4x4 have a dimple (the dimple is deeper on the 4x4's)

Not sure about the 4R55E...

This is the info I went off of in his public profile, which should mean it is a 4x4 A4LD.
