Paint stick always works, I have a buddy who used to have a section of copper wire around the latch on his Dodge.

I use a length of 5/16" fuel line with a "flag" of Duct tape as a "handle"

Dropped into the track like everyone else.

But like has been commented, it doesn't stop someone with a BFH,
a self-striking punch or a broken spark plug from breaking a window.

Remember that locks only keep honest people honest.
(Not locking things tempts honest people into being thieves)

A far better security system is what I call "870 phobia"

I was able to buy one off Ebay for about 8.00. The listing includes a sketch of the latch with measurements so you can compare it with your broken one to make sure they are the same. Search under Ranger rear latch.
