Granddaughter’s truck. She was driving it and it over heated. She didn't notice and she drove it until it stopped. Let it cool off, added water and drove it until it stopped again. It fails the glove test big time and has about 2quarts of water in the oil!!!

Need opinions from the forum. It is worth pulling the heads, having them inspected for cracks and putting it back together or is the engine toast (rings, bearing, pistons, etc.)??? Should I just get another engine and replace it??? I can get a guaranteed 94 4.0L engine for $500. I would need to use the intakes, etc. from the old engine.

What would you do??? :icon_confused:

I say replace it. Had a similar problem on my 2.9, Had it rebuilt because the severe heat warped the bores to the point I had to go from .20 to .60 over.

I also vote replace. Rings are springs, severe heat likely reduced their springing potential.

All the same work, less muss and fuss.

Id replace it. Then you have a spare engine for parts.
