Default Saginaw Pump Installed!

I used an HD replacement pump from a 1979 T-Bird. Bolted right into my 2.3's bracket. All the lines fit as well. No more whining, it steers easier, and has no problems bleeding.

I did run into one little problem. The top 2 bolts went in perfect, but the bottom one either stipped through or the hole didn't quite line up and was running along the bottom mounting flange and kept pulling back. Anyway's it holds fine with on the 2 bolts. Pulley also fits on the new pump. Whatever! Big difference!

So, did you eat the core charge or did they accept the plastic res ford pump as a core?

Hey Thanks man!

So this was just a bolt on mod?

What did you ask for when you walked into your local autoparts store?

I replaced my PS pump with a new reman plastic pump. I couldn't get rid of the overly annoying whining. Bled it anyway I could find how, and still no result. It drove me to this.

I used the stock pressure line and return line.

I asked for a 1979 T-bird HD replacement PS Pump. Any engine will work.

Yes, they did take the plastic pump. The stock pumps for the Ranger and t-bird are identical. But that's O'Reilly's. I can't say the same for anywhere else. I would think if you were to upgrade from a plastic pump, to the metal saginaw for you "T-bird"(hint hint), they would take it for core. I really don't think most places would care, just as long as they had something to send back.

They usually are not too picky, I even sent back my feedback distributer for a core after I got my duraspark one. I even asked first, parts guy said no problem.

I would hate to be the guy at the rebuilding place that has to sit and sort through all the oddball stuff that gets sent back and decide what is what though.

My Ranger is not old; no one would call her old. She has a bluff bow, lovely lines. She's a fine truck: weatherly, stiff and fast... very fast, if she's well handled. No, she's not old; she's in her prime.

Is the ps configuration on the 4 cylinders the same as the 6 cylinders (2.9 3.0 4.0)
