Hey, I have a '97 ranger. Suddenly my dome light stays on and the door ajar indicator is on. Where is the switch in the door or in the frame? Am I blind? I see no sensor.

This happened in my 98. most of the time all you need to do is spray silicone or WD-40 on the actual door part of the latch, the part that grabs the U shaped part on the door frame. For some reason the sensor gets stuck open and this seems to solve it. This worked for me hopefully you too.

Hmm, that sounds too easy..

But I certainly am going to try it. So the switch is in the door connected to the latch?

yup, in the door right by the latch, in the door. I originally joined RPS after searching around my door for an hour or so back in 05 :) Quick shot of WD-40 in the latch and its been working since.

internal door jam switch

This has to be one of Fords worst parts, I replaced the internal door jam switch about 6 months ago and it is messing up again. Almost a pain in the rear to change it cause you have to take door panel off and reach in there to get it out and put new one in (without being able to see what your doing)

This is why I joined this site. Everyone has been through my problems before. This started happening to my 99 Ranger tonight. First thing I thought of was that I could find the answer here. Thanks, you guys are awesome.

this is what brought me here to begin with. I used electrical cleaner and sprayed the snot out of the latch. What I did not realize (because I bought the truck with the condition) was that when you opened the doors the light stayed on in a delay. I thought it wasn't fixed and took the bulbs out again. Then one day I threw them back in and closed the door and went around the pass side and then the light went off. Been working great ever since (2 months now)

Our rear hatch on the Windstar does that too. Living on a dirt road doesn't help. When the lights stay on I pull the back panel off and douse everything with PB Blaster or WD40 or whatever happens to be in the shop at the time.

Yet another satisfied customer. My '02 recently started this, problem solved. Thanks for the input to this thread and thanks Jim for the forum, it's a great resource for Ranger Owners.
