The '94 2.3L 4cyl Ranger I picked up a few weeks ago has a weird miss to it. I will be driving down the road, running perfect and then all of a sudden, like a light switch, the engine starts running like crap. And I mean crap. Seriously about 2 cylinders. No power whatsoever. Then, just as fast as it happened, it goes away. Sometimes it'll last a few seconds, other times it'll last thirty seconds. Now it is in the driveway and won't stay running for more than 10 seconds without dying. I tried replacing the coils - no luck. Miss is still there. I am beginning to think that the ICM (ignition control module) is bad. I know there are other threads on this but I believe I have a different issue.

However, mine does not look like this (I believe this is the ECM)

Could this ICM be the issue?

Thanks everyone

the picture is not an ICM, the diagram is. go get it tested. free to test. have them test it a few times in a row to get it hot. if it passes you should get some fuel pressure readings.

Make sure that when you put the ICM back in that you use all 3 bolts and tighten to spec or you'll be wondering why it runs like crap or not at all. Really if the ICM is bad you should be getting CEL.
