Good afternoon y'all! My 97 2wd ext cab 5.0 swap is nearing completion. Carbureted 040 over 302, AOD, brackets from 97 v8 explorer. I picked up brand new alternator for explorer. I already new it has a different plug with only 2 wires used. Can anyone help with tieing that into my ranger harness? Then I. Get to replace my starter wiring. Thanks y'all

The Ranger plug should simply pop into place in the Expo alternator -- the small single wire plug is a simple loop back into the Ranger's 3 wire plug and can be cut away.

Thanks. Am curious about the 3rd wire in ranger plug and the other wire also. As long as it will keep my battery charged and run accessories life is good !

The Ranger alternator is a Ford 3G, has an external lead for the stator that the Explorer's 4G alternator lacks.

That middle white wire on the Ranger's alternator harness simply loops into the harness loom, and then back out to the single wire plug.

The Explorer alternator will work pefectly well without that wire.

Here's a visual of what/where that white wire does/goes:
