This is my friend's 2000 Ranger. The 4wd works intermittently, so the hubs definitely have issues. He got the vehicle stuck/unstuck yesterday (4wd didn't engage). As we we're coming back out with the selector switch in 2wd, there was an awful, loud squeak coming from the driver's side front end, that was not present before. When we got to a stopping place, I crawled under the truck and was able to turn the driver's side axle by hand and replicate the squeaking. I was not able to turn the pass. side shaft. I assume this hub is stuck in the engaged position. I had him select 4 hi and we drove down the road a little. The truck did not squeal and behaved like the 4wd was working correctly. When he selected 2wd, the noise returned. We drove home in 4 hi. Is this noise the spindle bearing?
