I know an F-150 with a trailer would do it no problem .... he is talking about flat towing 3000 pounds of car with no trailer breaks and no tongue weight. atleast a dolly would have tongue weight.......

It would be starting out of Cheyenne. I'm gonna search and see what it would cost to get my suspension and brakes up to the job and maybe think about a turbo or something. You sure know a fair bit about WY and NE Allan.
Also I don't wanna hear about an engine swap unless you've got an engine to donate. I've got a v6, but its a carbed buick.

A '65 Mustang is a very small car. A 6-cylinder version is only 2,500# and a V8 just a bit more. A Ford Focus is much heavier than a '65 Mustang.
It's an "if you have to ask" situation, honestly. I would move that car with that truck if I had too, but if you don't know if it can, you definitely shouldn't try it. Let him come get his car.

My brother and his family live just east of Casper and own property just North of Casper, so yeah, I've been there... I move cars around here in PA, generally within 300-ish miles, for a local small used car dealer. I use my Ranger and a dolly to do the moving, so I make it a point to know the terrain in addition to the highways. if I set out on a tow job I generally know I can do it and what all the potential trouble spots are, hills, tight turns traffic congestion points... frankly I KNOW I wouldn't attempt a tow bar tow of that car even with my 4.10 geared 4.0 Ranger. On a dolly? no hesitation, I've done heavier... over worse roads back in April I hauled a 2002 Explorer back from Ft Drum, NY But I'm not sure I'd be happy doing it with a 2.3Ranger. Cheyenne makes it easier than any other "major city" (in quotes because of absurdity), but I'd be concerned about WHERE in Tennesse it had to go... Memphis? No problem. Nashville? problem. Knoxville? (assume I'm laughing hysterically) a full roll on trailer is out of the question for you because the extra weight would kill you on the upgrades. I had a 16foot dovetail trailer and it got tiring lugging around an extra 1860lbs of trailer. I'm currently working on a deal where I have to transport a 2000 Ranger to South Bend Indiana, and a 1997PSD engine to Walcott, IA (I actually have to do TWO hauls out to South Bend) the amusing part of this is the deal in the works (not set in stone) for a back haul is a 1985 Ranger based motor home, out of Sturgis, Michigan. If that falls through I could be available for a haul from South Bend to wherever in Tennesse it needs to go...

The engine can handle it with decent rear axle ratio, but the brakes and wheelbase can't. Its too dangerous |

sells for three times as much out west, which is why this one is destined for Douglas, Wyoming. The other thing I know is that they are heavy phuckers, but I dragged a milling machine back from LaPorte, IN on my 16ft dovetail back when I still had a 2.9 on my truck, and Western Pennsylvania doesn't really scare me. I just have to make the run west past Milesburg at night, or in the rain because it's less annoying to run up those hills while keeping the engine cool. Like I said the engine is going to Wyoming but I'll be damned if I drive all the way there just to transport an engine. my plan is to drive halfway and meet either my brother or his buddy in Iowa (Walcott, IA is the approximate halfway point) the engine is actually for his buddy and if he wanted to pay for the gas BOTH WAYS I might actually do it... but that's ~200gallons off gas for the round trip. (Nobody needs to know that I'm already getting paid for a round trip to South Bend....)

Unless you've got an engine to give or wanna buy my 79 Triumph TR7, then I'm kinda boned regardless. I found a turbo 2.3l for $500 here local.

I'm on a tight budget, if I could afford to pay for shipping I wouldn't be asking for opinions. The car would be here. Nothing has happened yet to make me believe that the car isn't safe with her dad, but he's unstable and I would rather not have that car see his wrath if he so chose. Plus its a sweet car and my fiance loves driving it.
