My credo
Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.
I had to make a custom trans mount because I went with a bw4406 manual shift transfer case out of a 2001 f150. I used the front driveshaft out of the same f150 with a conversion u-joint to mount back to my ranger front end. I cut 1 inch off of the slip yoke and splines to give me some play because the front shaft was a 1/4 inch to long and would not fit. I read where the f150 front shaft was a drop in but mine didn't work that way. I used the explorer rear drive shaft and had the f150 front yoke welded on to slide into the back of the transfer case.

How did the 4406 fit? Any pics?

Some guys say they do and some say they don't... never seen a pic either way.

I have around 1 1/4" of clearance from the top of the case to the bottom of the body. Around 1/2" from the driver side frame rail. I shaved all the castings off of the side of the transfer case also. Overall fit with a custom trans mount I would say is well with no worries.

How did you deal with the pats? Did you goto ford or swap the explorer stuff in?

The 2000 explorer has the same pats type as the 2000 ranger. Grab the box from behind the air bag of the explorer along with the ignition cylinder and key. Swap those to things out in the ranger and once you install the 5.0 pcm it will see its pats key and box in the loop. The communications wires for the pats box tie into the main comm wires on the obdII port(PINK/LIGHT BLUE AND TAN/ORANGE) I doubt you will need the transmitter ring around the ignition that sends the signal to the box. But if you want to pull it you can.

You don't have to swap the cylinder and key if you already have PATS. Using Forscan, you can just pair the existing keys to the computer. That way you can retain the same key for doors and ignition.

I figured out my pats deal. Someone had a key taped inside the ranger steering column. So I pulled the ring off the Mountaineer and now my pats it’s working correctly. Truck still won’t crank with the key. But I can jump the solenoid and get spark. No fuel ether. So I guess I’ll be checking relays.

No. It comes on when I first turn the key on. But then goes out.

I know pats will disable the fuel injectors. But I am pretty positive the spark issue is unrelated to pats.

I have spark. No fuel. And no crank unless I jump the solenoid

I re-read your post. Have your checked to see if you have voltage on the solenoid plug you wired in from the explorer. Recheck all of your grounds also.
