What have you guys used on a 1st Gen Ranger for an electric fan? I picked up a Taurus fan and its waaay close to the water pump pulley.

E-fans can go on the front of the rad as well :)

What engine do you have in the '83?

Not if you want A/C. And they don't move as much air as a properly shrouded puller fan.

Yes, pusher fan is 20% less efficient than puller fan, but better than no fan at all if you don't have room :)

Yes, if there was an AC condenser then you would have to get thin puller fan and make it fit in engine bay.

I'm running a 2.3t and a stock radiator, which I think is going to hinder me on finding a slim fan.

Thanks guys, turns out if you're creative enough the Taurus fan will fit and now I've got almost an inch to the water pump pulley. I went to town cutting and plastic welding the shroud with a soldering iron. Just need to decide how I'm gonna control it

What generation Taurus is that fan from?

I grabbed one yesterday from a 3rd gen, and it looks like it will sit right inside the shroud without cutting. The E-fan is smaller in diameter than the clutch fan. If anything, I will have to make up some sheet metal to close the gap.

+1

And how thin did you get it?

I am running a pusher efan and a puller low pro flexfan. Flexfan can't hack it on its own if the truck is idling or moving at low speed. But I want to add A/C which will interfere with my pusher and like you I don't have a ton of room to work with...

Oooo, yours is an oldie with the thicker all metal radiator too (I keep forgetting they did that) They are thicker than the later radiators (84-85+ roughly)

If you could get a measurement how thick your fan is I would greatly appreciate it. :icon_thumby:

Sorry for the delay. The shroud is about 3 3/4" thick but to the edge of the fan motor it's about 4 1/2". There is still a good 1/2" I could trim to narrow it more but I'm good where it is.
