What winch are you running on it?

I just picked up 2 pieces of channel steel, 1 piece was 60" & the other was 12". The smaller piece was used to cut 2 extensions to mount to the frame horns & the longer one to use for the front bumper.

The extensions are mounted to the outside of the frame horns backed up to the front body mount. There is enough room to drill 3 holes through the extensions & the frame horn & bolt 'em up, I think they were 1/2" but I actually can't remember at the moment...:icon_confused:

Anyway, you can use washers on 2 of the bolts, the hole in the back does not have enough room to clear one.

After you have the frame horn extensions bolted on, make a notch on the top & bottom of them so the bumper will slide onto them, center it up & weld it together.

To do the angles, find where you want 'em, heat 'em with a torch, & bend 'em in. The winch is a Smittybuilt Xrc8, I think the winch mount is a universal deal. I found out I had just enough room to mount my KC's, so there it is...I'm gonna use rust preventive rattle can black to paint it & be done..............:icon_thumby:

Thanks for the specs...... do you mind if I borrow this bumper build?
How strong are the ends that you bent in?

I was thinking if you weld a support brace from the bumper end to the frame horn mount, that will protect the ends from smashing in if you hit something on the bumper ends.

Did you cut the frame horns off or left them on?

Sorry for all the questions just want some good ideas for a winch bumper for my ex.

Don't worry about the questions man....I don't mind if you use my idea at all, that's cool with me.

The ends are pretty solid but I have considered welding a brace to support 'em & close off the opening.

I left the frame horns on, that is what I bolted the extensions to. I don't know that the measurements will be the same for an ex.

One thing I forgot, we cut notches on the actual bumper where the bends are, just measure the angle you want & cut the notches out on the backside to allow the bumper to basically go back together when you bend 'em in, then weld those up....Let me know if I confused you & I will try to explain a little better.

Hey I might be using your idea, thanks. Yeah I know what you mean about notching the backside.

I do have another question how did you attach the winch mount/plate?

Did you weld or bolt it on top of the bumper.

Just sold some old truck tires and body panels today so I got some cash to make a bumper and maybe get a winch :icon_bounceblue:

The winch plate was bought when the winch was bought, I believe it was just a universal mounting plate...it is bolted to the top of the extensions & there are 2 bolts bolted to the top of the bumper. I can get you some better pics if you want, it just might take me a few days to get them on here.
