just installed electric fan in 86 b2

hell yeah just got it in today. i read an article about how it can make up to an extra 15hp and 27ft lbs of torque. i cant really feel it if its there. but im not to worried about it. anything helps. poor gutless motors. one of these days ill be putting the 4.0 in it.

does anybody know what mileage ill be getting with this mod. im getting 15.76 miles to the gallon. im hopeing for maybe an extra gallon. got the cat removed with a high flow muffler from thrush, good air cleaner by k&n. im waiting on a 89 b2 or ranger ecm so i can get rid of the knock sensor and the egr. damn things are a bitch.

but yeah let me know if i can make any other changes for better mpgs and a lil more hp. thx guys and girls.

Bit of an exaggeration for the e-fan and HP/MPG, lol, if that were the case Ford and every other car maker would be doing it.
Still a good add on.
Technically it is just one more thing to break, but these have a good life span, probably better than the fan clutch :)

Intake and exhaust changes usually hurt MPG unless done correctly and then it is just a break-even, dyno testing proves that, but sound is way better
If these did improve MPG then manufacturer's would have changed them, manufacturer's would kill for better MPG, lol, they switched to cold air intakes(CAIs) because they worked, but many years ago.

In general the best thing is to keep fuel system and spark system in good condition, the computer will give you the best MPG if it has good equipment to work with.

The B2 is simply a poor body style for MPG.
Keep your foot off the gas pedal, stay under 55mph and you will see a marked improvement in MPG.

I agree. Give us some specs on what fan/shroud you used. Pictures would be excellent too. I think several of us have thought about this mod.

i agree with you ron. its a bit much but hey if it works than ok.

i used a fan fan off a escort i think it was around a 04 model. but you have to use a 30 to 40 amp relay with a 40+ maxi fuse and a 20 or better amp switch. it was trial and error. lol i melted the first toggle. because i didnt use the relay. ill get pics as soon as i can.

i allready noticed an increase in mileage. i wont know until friday when i fill up.

You can get temp sensors that slide into the rad fins with adjustable temp settings, these control on/off e-fan relays, so you don't have to manually turn on/off the e-fan.
This is easier than adding an upper hose temp sensor and works exactly the same.

Having a toggle switch as a master off is great for water crossing, no need to fan that water around engine compartment :)

i dont mind the toggle. i dont have to turn it on a lot where i live. im in cedar city ut. weather is still good here.

I used a fan from a 90's tempo in my 85 ranger 2.8. Had to turn it on end and build some brackets to make it work though. Kind of looks like a hack job but I was stuck at my parents farm with only a few donor vehicles to choose from. Works well until the rad plugs up with poplar seeds.
