So yesterday my truck started to make this slight whine noise as I drove and when I got home I found out it was the throw out bearing. I spraid it with wd40 and it stopes for a few miles than started again. Is it bad to just leave it in there or does it simply just make an annoying noise. Btw the noise stops when the clutch petal is pressed.

Thanks dom

Yeah! They squeal and complain but I've never heard of one actually failing. Back in the day we drove them for years and years making their silly noises. Just drive it as long as you can stand the sound..

When mine started to make noise, I opened her up, and it fell right out.

If its making noise, then its on its way out.

Plan on replacing the whole business while you're in there.

In fact, you should just swap a 4.0 clutch and pressure plate while you're in there.

The clutch was done befor I bought the truch a few months ago. I hate to open it just to change the bearing. If I don't what are the odds of it seizing

My guess would be somewhere around 99.999% that it won't seize. Truely I've not ever heard of one seizing.

You wont say that when you hear what I have to say.

The throw-out bearing on my Ranger seized completely and fawked my slave cylinder all to hell, tore the shyt out of the thing. Was driving down the street, bearing started making noise, next thing I know, pedal was completely gone, it had leaked all the fluid out of the master and resevoir in less than 5 minutes. Needless to say it was a good thing I learned clutchless shifting awhile ago, lol.

I've seen that a few times myself.

I always think of a failed slave cylinder as just that...A FAILED SLAVE CYLINDER! How can you blame that on a bearing failure?

If youd seen the mess that was the old slave, youd know, lol.

The bearing seized about halfway on the shaft-like portion of the slave, and got turned at an angle somehow, ended up ripping the shaft to pieces and blowing every seal that it possibly could.

i had one seize up and take out the slave cylinder too...

throw out bearing started making a little noise (clicking sounds) just as i was parking in a parking lot then the noise went away. came back out of the store and started it up and it was clicking again. shut it off and looked under the hood (didnt know at the time what the issue was) got back in and the clutch pedal was rock hard. once i got a tow home and tore things apart, i found the problem. the throw out bearing was completely seized up and heat discolored. it melted its self to the slave and left them both junk. standing on the clutch pedal didnt move the throw out bearing at all, it would just push fluid through the seals.
