Hi, I just bought an 85 ranger for $800. It has the TFI controlled 2.8l.
I went to the coast this weekend and picked up an engine for the truck with it I recived not only an Offy 4bbl intake but a Mallory unilite dist. P/N# 4760801.
I want to remove the computer controlled carb and go with a duraspark ignition on my ranger. What I would like to know is will this dist. work with a duraspark swap? It has three wires RED/GREEN/BROWN.
I know the dist. is an upgrade for 83-84 BroncoII/Rangers. Other then that I know nothing about it.

Here is a picture of the dist.

Here is a pic of the Ranger I just bought.

that disty looks like it would work. the tfi disty has a module on it and no vacuum port. that looks like a disty for a pinto with duraspark ignition

On the dizzy find the ground wire and the other two would be the reluctor coil. It dont matter which is which as long as there is continuity between them and no short. I got my module and dizzy from autozone and the dizzy harness out of a 84 4 cyl ranger you can probably get the module too if you can find a good one used.

6"skyjacker coils, cheap "plate" style drop brackets, blocks and add-a-leafs.
stock radius arms and a 2" body lift. It will hold 33s with no problems.
Figured for the maxxas bighorns being 95%(32x11.50) and the lift/body being in ok shape, it would be worth putting another engine in it.

EDIT: Ohh and thanks for the info. guys. I went to malloryperformance.com and found the install info. Also I only payed $300 for the engine. figured the offy intake and mallory dist. was worth that.
