Well then I suppose its worth a try, would it be a bad idea to get the synchro hub from a junkyard trans? I couldnt find anybody selling a new one online.

How should I go about removing the bearing on the mainshaft? thats what I thought i needed the puller for because I saw sombody else using one in their rebuild writeup.

use a brass punch and tap it off, only tap the inner race of the bearing.. then when putting it back on tap it on until it bottoms out

are you replacing the gears also?

Alright, I'll do that. I don't plan on replacing the gears, I'm on a low budget and I just want to get it up and running again.

There is a big nut on the end of the mainshaft. Do not damage it to much because its going to be hard to find another one. The place I got that nut from no longer carries it.

Alright, I got it off without damaging it. How are you supposed to stake it back in place though? And also I cant see how I can use a brass punch to get this bearing off because the gear below it is in the way.

thats what i used. just use the punch on whatever is most accessible.. you don't have to punch on the bearing itself..

but be sure to remove the brass particles

I think i used a combination of prybars and a hammer. But I replaced the mainshaft when I had mine apart and didn't need to worry of damaging the shaft.

Did you end up fixing your issue? I've got the same problem with my 2.3 4x4 right now and I was convinced the trans is on its way out until I saw this thread
