I want to update the 2.8 Page in the Technical Library in the coming month(s).

The page is a few years old and I'm not sure how accurate the info is anymore. If you have ANY suggestions as to what should be added, changed or deleted from the page, please post them here. This includes part numbers, names of manufacturers, links, custom modifications, know problems or even cheap tricks.

Thanks.

The Racer Walsh site doesn't link and maybe should be dropped. They don't carry the line that they used to. They used to be a great source for 4 cylinders and the V-6.

Actually Racer Walsh still has a little stuff for the 2.8, particularly the offy intake. Biggest thing is there site address has changed. Actually by doing a quick search of the site they still have all of the stuff listed in the tech page.

Pacesetter, Hooker no longer carry headers. Hedman does still makes them, and IIRC so does Eldebrock.

THose are just what I got at the moment.

When removing and reinstalling the front timing cover there's two water passage sleeves that have to be replaced sometimes. These are actually called "Bushing Water Inl. Cly Block" Ford part#D2RY6178.B These have been discontinued by Ford. There's only 10 dealers in the U.S.A. that have some. And that is only a total of 23 sleeves. They can be made out of steel if your really hand in the shop.

The screws can back out of the rotor and it will come loose and destroy itself against the cap with the stock distributer, it has happened to me and at least one other user.

The first thing that you think of is the cam/crank gears died, mine had a really nice backfire that blew up my muffler when it happend.

Maybe a general tip page is needed for various things

The disintegrated rotor thing happened to me too- something to watch - I now use just a touch of Locktite on the screws.

Also carry a spare TFI; I had one fail in a city intersection - about 6 hours and almost $300.00 to get back on the road. Could have done it myself faster and cheaper.

My guess is they figured people would check them occasionally (back then people still did regular tune ups) and it would be replaced/retightened.

I must admit that was the first time I had looked at mine...:black_eye:

I know this is old, but I think the tech page needs a write up on replacing 2.8 valves with valves from the 2.9

If you update the duraspark upgrade page for the parts list, you can get the dist. cap adapter at autozone. It's part number F976.

It's listed in the computer as a "distributor cap & rotor kit." Yeah -- it took some quality time to find that one.
