My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Campin' ain't campin' if you can't smell the rain and listen to the bugs. :icon_thumby:

Says you .........The ground is to cold to sleep on. I will camp with my plush mattress and heat. Plus I like to cook my food on the grill and I like to have refrigeration. RV camping is the way to go. the Motorhome we had (refered to as Satan's Motorhome) got 13 mpg and cost less to drive it cross country than it did to drive the expedition (17 mpg) and stay in Motels.

Ok, total newbie here BUT I'm soon to have a 2.3L Ranger engine in my truck -so no bad mouthin!
My bug-out camper is 1,000 lbs, 1977 13' Trillium. Solar powered fridge and entertainment, propane powered furnace and stove, electric brakes and my Vdub is a 1-ton truck. Most people don't know that about them.

Did I mention, the sides fold down to make a flat bed too?

That is awesome itlives! About the only thing that would make that better is if the trailer was painted the same color as the VW and had some similar rims.

Suppose I should post my truck since about all it does is take me to school and haul camp gear.

Currently running 235/75R15" Yokohama Geolander A/T tires. For $110 each they are good tires but they like to dig from a standstill (not pictured in photo).

Here is my "trailer"

People don't realize that in Europe, you carry the same shit with smaller trucks. I had a '68 VW van and we'd fill the thing from floor to ceiling with cases of soda and it never even really noticed. I had a hitch made for it which attached to a pipe bumper and also up the sides of the engine compartment. I pulled a 3-axle trailer with a '74 Thunderbird on it one time, and lots of other vehicles on a dolly. I think of those things more as farm tractors with bodies than as vehicles. I blew the engine a lot, but it's so easy to pull it from a van and back then it cost about $20 to overhaul it. It's ridiculous that an engine you can pull by hand and toss up on a workbench by yourself can power such a useful vehicle. I actually still have my old John Muir Idiot's book right here.

I've posted this in a couple of other threads. I'm sitting here in bed feeling like crap from allergies wasting time. I'll be better for next weeks outing though!
I'm putting a 2.3L out of a Mustang in it - soon. The machine shop should be done on Tuesday. Still have to fab some things - motor mounts and a "deck lid' in the bed to make it easy to change the oil and adjust the carb. I'm using an Esslinger adapter and running the rad under the body between the frame rails. The camper only weighs 1,000 lb's. It's a 1977 13' Trillium (fiberglass). Sink, stove, heater, AC., porta potti and solar power. Still got to get the entertainment (stereo and (yes) TV -all 12V. installed.

Arn't the pickup VW's pretty rare to go swapping motors like that though?

Even a bus is around here that is that clean at any rate...
