Its a 2002 2.3 automatic. there is a vacuum hose on the back of the motor that rotted off and i can hear it whistling. I was wondering where it went, I cant seem to follow it. And can you just replace it with just a regular vacuum line?

sounds like your brake booster line.

If it urns out to be an EGR DPFE tube, they are high temperature silicone, not just any tubing will do for replacing that. You're really going to have to track down its end and be more specific.

I looked again today and for the life of me I cant track it. its coming off the driver side top of the intake and then goes straight down and from there I keep losing it. The line rotted collapsed and then sucked a hole in it.

Large diameter tube? Could be PCV.

I have same problem on 2001 2.3L

My vacuum hose runs from driver side top at back of engine goes straight down to? It's a 1/2" OD rubber hose and it's very soft, so it colapses to almost and makes idle run up and down. If I use my fingers to bring to hose back to its round position it gets better suction and idle smoothes out.
The thing is, I don't know where it goes to! I can see the first 18 inches or so between engine and fire wall and that it.

I really want to change it but don't know what it is.

There should be a vacuum hose diagram sticker in the engine compartment, usually just in front of the radiator
