I want to put a 5.0 with a carb into my '94 Ranger. The ranger currently has a 2.3 in it. Could I just use the stock 2.3 fuel pump with a regulator or do I need to get a new fuel pump? Thanks.

fuel pump

you need will to have to change the pump you only need 5-7 psi and efi is about 40 psi. I'm sure they don't make a regulator to drop the pressure that much.

You can use a Fuel Pressure regulator with Return line and the stock electric in tank pump.

1994 Ranger used Return line so it is there

Since there will be no computer to shut off electric pump if engine stalls I would keep using a Fuel pump relay but add oil pressure switch as the Ground for that relay, so if oil pressure drops below 5psi fuel pump power is cut.

If you are going to change pump in tank then think about switching to mechanical pump and just pickup tube in the tank, no electric pump, or install pickup tube and electric pump in the frame rail not in the tank

Thanks so much! I'll just use the stock pump with a regulator and run the system with a return. Also, will a carb with a low rise intake manifold actually fit under the hood without a body lift? Thanks again.

I have a 351 Windsor with edelbrock performer alum dual plane intake and Holley 600 cfm vacuum secondary, edelbrock round chrome air cleaner fits fine under 2003 ranger hood.
