Check the 'lil stopper bushing on backside of the gear in the electirc motor. That is what was wrong with mine. Used about 1/4in of vaccum hose to replace the toasted bushing. And now it works great:icon_thumby:

i'd be hitting up a junkyard... IF parts are needed

however you can test it.. you could bypass the switch and see if you get 4x4. or you could get a volt meter out and test for power before the switch, then after, then at the shift motor. have you look in the tech library about adjusting the shift motors or anything yet?

I did all of the above mentioned on mine, did not fix it, finally pulled motor apart and found bad bushing. Also had bad bushing in the replacement i bought at the J-yard:annoyed: Now I have a spare motor:icon_thumby:

i'd start w/ the bushing in the motor... b/c that is the most common.

is there a rebuild kit for the motor or should i just take it apart and clean it what is the best way to bypass the switch so i can make sure the switch is not the problem

its just an electric switch. i took a fused wire and hooked to both sides of the switch. just completed the circuit... however, mine is a first gen w/ the overhead switch. i'd assume its the same thing.

and rebuild kit? you don't need it.... read the comment above about replacing the toast bushing w/ 1/4 of vacuum hose.
