I've got a 98' ranger and the door ajar sensor was malfunctioning constantly so i just unhooked it and ordered a new one. And now that i have the new one I cant get the old one to come out with the latch in the door and i dont want to take the latch out because there is three linkages id have to disconnect. Has anyone replaced this before or is there some kind of trick to get it out? thanks

If the linkages are anything like the ones on my '90 & '94, they're very easy to disconnect, all you have to do is flip a little plastic piece to release the rod (there's no little E-clips or anything like that).

just unplug the wire and twist the switch and it will come out.

Try WD40 first

I haven't replaced the switch but there are some threads back in 2008-2009 that address that issue. I just joined this forum today after Googling a problem with my dome light/door ajar staying on. Lo and behold, it's a COMMON problem. Someone said to spray WD40 in the mechanism because the switches seem to get stuck frequently. Guess what? Worked like a charm!

Hope this works for you.
