What's the acceptable amount of play allowed in the tie rods/tie rod ends? I just removed, rebuilt and replaced my steering box and changed out both tie rod ends connecting to either wheel. Now when I grab the long tie rod running from the pitman arm to the passengers side tie rod end and twist it so the two top and one bottom passengers side tie rod ends pivot full range. How tight should these be? If I tighten the castle nuts on the tie rod ends will it lessen the amount of play in the upper tie rod ends, or do these need replacing? I replaced the tie rod ends hoping to cure a terrible clunking going over pot holes but it didn't fix anything. See video for further details: https://vid.me/lHTiD

Sorry, can't see vid.
Do I have to sign up to see it? ...not going to happen.
Or perhaps one of my ad-blockers is working?

no no you shouldn't have to sign up to see anything. It shows up fine for me, i don't know why you are having trouble.

I see it now...??
Anyway, twisting like you're doing is fine. Slop to be concerned about is side to side or up and down. If you get someone to turn the steering wheel back and forth slowly, there should be no movement at the joint sideways. Like the pitman arm and tierod should move at exactly the same time in relation to each other.
