so my truck keeps throwing this code, i believe it stands for thermostat heater control curcuit open, or something close to that, and i dont know whats causing it. It seems to pop up right after im driving the truck hard (4k rpms- redline). What is causing this?

Truck is an 02 reg cab 5 speed.

Yes. It is for thermostat heater control. It have no idea why it comes up after a hard run.

Here is what you do to test it.

Unplug the connector for the thermostat heater. Hook a volt meter to the harness side plug and check for voltage with the key on. You should have at least 10.5V, but it should be closer to 12.

If you have at least 10.5V at the connector do a resistance test of the heater itself. The heater should read between 14 and 16 ohms. If that is out of spec, get a new heater.

If all else checks out, post back up and let us know and I'll get you the next test steps.

update: So I still havent had time to hunt down the problem, but 2 days ago I got in my truck to go to work and the CEL was off. I haven't been able to get my hands on the reader to see if the code is still there, but what does this mean?

It means you have gone through enough drive cycles without the problem occurring to convince the PCM to turn the CEL off.

sweet. so is there some wiring issue or were there random conditions which caused it to throw the code?

I'm gonna guess wiring issue that gets aggravated by romping on it. Try wiggling the wiring to that circuit, along with the other major engine harnesses that could flex with engine torque. Look for a loose fuse too.
