97 ford ranger 4.0 runs fine, drives fine, shifts fine clutch makes a whining noise when you push in the pedal you can feel it in the pedal too

If you can feel it in the pedal, I'd guess your throwout bearing is on it's way out

The only time I've ever heard a "swishing sound" was when a disc was worn to the point of
metal-to-metal contact between the disc and the pressure plate inertia ring or the face of the flywheel...

the throw-out bearing is under constant load from the day it is installed until the day it is removed and replaced.

in Ford's words: "the release bearing is a constant contact & constant run"
